This Bethlehem Olive Wood Pen is a “Gentlemen’s Jr.” style rollerball pen. Each pen, turned from the wood of olive trees in Bethlehem, has a one-0f-a-kind grain pattern. The grain pattern on this one is gorgeous, running throughout. It is also unique because it is “friction polished” which is a natural finish allowing the oils of the wood to be seen, felt and sometimes even smelled! It is finished with silver colored tips. Each pen tells a story. Here’s the beginning of this pen’s story. We look forward to the rest of the story from you in years to come.
In Bethlehem, Israel, there are olive groves that have been producing olives for thousands of years. These trees are periodically pruned. I found a wood carver there who takes the off-cuts and prunings from these ancient groves and makes beautiful things out of the olive wood. He agreed to sell me a small quantity of this wood, and I asked Mike Boyd to take it and turn a few pens out of it. Each pen is unique and tells a couple of amazing stories: 1) In the right hands, this piece of ‘trash’ was turned into an amazing work of art. 2) Pruning is an illustration of a painful experience that helps us to grow. 3) You are holding a piece of living history. It is possible that the tree from which this wood came was in existence during the life of Christ.
This would make a really special gift for a pastor or any Christian who appreciates a tie to history.
